This page gives some interesting current information about Camp Gifford.  Click on the titles below to see a short synopsis of the "history of Camp Gifford", or to see some interesting "photos from the past".

Camp Gifford has been changing the lives of campers since the early 1920's.  The camp was acquired in 1921-1922 and has been providing affordable camping experiences every summer since.

The primary purpose of Camp Gifford is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the young people that attend here.  With the help of public donations, earning money through the winter by renting the camp to retreat groups, and with the help of programs like The United Way and the USDA Summer Food Service Program, we continue to have the ability to help low income families give their children an unforgettable camping experience.  Each summer The Salvation Army develops a sliding scale, based on household income, to determine how much a camper will pay to attend camp.  In 1998 the scale began at just $40.00 per camper for six days and five nights of residential camping.  Our actual cost per camper is about $165.00 per week. Take a look at our "Summer Information" page for more information about sending kids to camp - or, to help us in our efforts to send kids to camp, take a look at our "Donations" page.

Camp Gifford has enjoyed, and continues to enjoy, the help of many organizations and individuals in seeking to accomplish our goal of changing lives.  The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary in Spokane, Washington is a outstanding example of one group determined to make a difference in many lives.  The Women's Auxiliary has been supporting camp for many years and has purchased many pieces of camp equipment and been one of the primary sources of funding for recent construction at camp.  With the help of The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary Annual Golf Classic, supported in large part by the trucking industry in the Inland Empire, over $250,000.00 has been raised over the 11 years the Golf Classic has existed.  All the money raised at this event go to help with capital improvements at Camp Gifford.  Trans System, Inc., located out of Spokane, Washington is the primary corporate sponsor for this event and has our heartfelt gratitude!  More about this event and the other excellent companies and individuals that sponsor it will be available early in 1999 as the 12th Annual Golf Classic draws near.  (For more information on joining The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary you can call 509-325-6810, or e-mail us by clicking "here".)

From the early 1920's until recently Camp Gifford was only used for it's primary purpose of bringing children out in the summer.  As the summer camping program has become more and more expensive the camp has begun, since 1995, offering itself out to non-profit churches and organizations as a retreat and conference center.  With a growing clientele base, and a beaming reputation for good food and great hospitality, Camp Gifford is quickly becoming a favorite retreat facility of many Spokane and eastern Washington churches and organizations.  If you are interested in potentially having a retreat at Camp Gifford (we have great prices!) click here - "retreat information".
